Hyperpigmentation as a Woman of Color
BBL, Moxy, PRP, Peels, Secret RF, the list of lasers and treatments goes on and on. Navigating hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and the unavoidable ageing process is an ongoing learning curve. No skin is the same, and let me tell you, with the amount of trauma I’ve had undergoing different lasers and peels attempting to relieve acne scarring, and dark spots I could write a short novel. I’m going to give you guys the skinny on what actually works, and what to avoid like the plague when it comes to being a woman of color.
What’s Hot
Moxi
More downtime, but it does work. I suggest doing this in the winter
Fraxel
Downtime, but great for the super deep scarring
SECRET RF
I literally cried when I had this done, but let me tell you - it works!
What’s Not
BBL
A broadband laser can discolor your skin (it’s happened to me), and cause more harm than good.
PRP
Personally, I just don’t think taking my blood and putting it in my face is hot
PEELS
I really don’t see a difference doing a big peel. I do enjoy doing a less intense peel at home once or twice a week to help with resurfacing and overall glow
What’s Hot at Home
Dr. Dennis Gross Peel Pads
LED Face Mask (I use the Dr. Dennis Gross)
Paula’s Choice BHA Toner
